Legal Assistant Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Legal Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will conduct legal research, prepare and file critical documents, and maintain meticulous legal records. Your ability to manage schedules, communicate effectively, and collaborate with attorneys and other team members will play a crucial role in the success of our legal operations.

In this role, you will: 

  • Legal Research and Case Support: Conduct thorough legal research to assist in case preparation and provide detailed findings to attorneys.

  • Legal Records Management: Maintain, organize, and update legal files, ensuring compliance with document retention policies.
  • Administrative Support: Schedule appointments, manage calendars, and coordinate meetings for attorneys and clients.
  • Client and Stakeholder Communication: Serve as a liaison between attorneys, clients, court personnel, and opposing counsel, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the legal team to support shared goals and ensure the smooth operation of legal processes.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field.
  • Professional Experience: Proven experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar administrative legal support role.
  • Legal Knowledge: Strong understanding of legal terminology, procedures, and document preparation.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Organizational Abilities: Exceptional time-management and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating in a team-oriented environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal software applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification: Legal Assistant or Paralegal certification from a recognized institution is highly valued.
  • Advanced Research Skills: Familiarity with tools like Westlaw or LexisNexis for legal research.
  • Specialized Experience: Background in specific legal areas such as corporate law, litigation, or family law.
  • Bilingual Abilities: Fluency in additional languages to support diverse client needs.
  • Process Improvement Skills: Experience in streamlining administrative processes to enhance efficiency within legal teams.
