Bookkeeper Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper to manage the financial records of our property portfolio. In this role, you will handle daily bookkeeping tasks, including account reconciliation, tax compliance, and financial reporting.
Your expertise in real estate accounting principles and financial analysis will help support property managers and ensure compliance with industry regulations. In this role, you will:
- Financial Accounting: Perform account reconciliations, prepare financial statements, and ensure accurate bookkeeping for real estate properties.
- Payroll Processing: Process payroll for property management staff, adhering to tax and labor laws.
- Tax Compliance: Prepare and file property tax returns, sales tax, and other required filings, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Transaction Processing: Review and process accounting transactions related to property operations, including rent payments and maintenance expenses.
- Accounts Receivable: Track and collect rent payments, generate late notices, and coordinate with tenants regarding balances.
- Accounts Payable: Process vendor invoices, manage purchase orders, and ensure timely payment of bills.
- Expense Management: Monitor and record property expenses, such as utilities, maintenance, and insurance costs.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and organized accounting records, both physical and digital, for audits and reports.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct monthly reconciliations, analyze financial data, and provide insights to property managers.
- Vendor and Utility Management: Review vendor and utility invoices for accuracy and approve timely payments.
- Cash Management: Deposit and record payments from tenants and other revenue sources.
- Tax Planning: Collaborate with tax professionals to develop strategies for compliance and efficiency.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Professional Experience: Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar financial role within the real estate industry.
- Accounting Knowledge: Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and real estate-specific accounting practices.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Excel, and G Suite for accurate financial reporting.
- Financial Analysis: Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify trends, and prepare clear financial reports.
- Attention to Detail: High degree of accuracy in financial transactions and record-keeping.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to liaise with property managers, tenants, and vendors effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with property management software or systems like Yardi or AppFolio.
- Certification in bookkeeping or accounting (e.g., Certified Bookkeeper, CPA).
- Familiarity with tax planning for real estate and investment properties.
- Advanced knowledge of budgeting and forecasting techniques.
