Head of Finance Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Head of Finance to lead our financial operations and drive the strategic growth of our real estate portfolio. In this role, you will oversee investment evaluations, resource allocation, and risk management while maintaining financial controls and compliance.

You will collaborate with key stakeholders, including board members and property owners, to ensure that financial strategies align with organizational goals. In this role, you will: 

• Oversee Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with real estate investments and operations.
• Lead Investment Decision-Making: Evaluate potential acquisitions, dispositions, and renovation projects, providing recommendations to maximize ROI.
• Drive Financial Planning: Develop and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial forecasts for the organization’s properties and portfolio.
• Approve Budgets: Review and approve budgets for property operations, capital expenditures, and strategic initiatives.
• Provide Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of accountants and finance professionals, fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture.
• Allocate Resources: Strategically allocate financial resources to support operational needs and capital improvement projects.
• Conduct Financial Analyses: Perform detailed profit and cost analyses to identify areas for improvement and optimize property performance.
• Maintain Financial Controls: Establish and enforce robust financial controls to ensure data security and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with the Board: Advise board members on funding options, financial strategies, and key investment opportunities.
• Implement Cost-Saving Measures: Identify opportunities to reduce costs while enhancing profitability across the real estate portfolio.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

• Professional Experience: Extensive experience as a Head of Finance, Director of Finance, or similar senior role in the real estate sector.
• Financial Expertise: Deep knowledge of real estate finance, including cash flow management, budgeting, and financial analysis.
• Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team of financial professionals.
• Analytical Proficiency: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills to identify trends and actionable insights.
• Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in accounting software, financial modeling tools, and real estate-specific financial systems.
• Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
• Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Real Estate, or related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (MBA, CFA, CPA) are highly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience managing financial operations for a large real estate portfolio or REIT.
• Expertise in real estate market trends, property valuation, and investment strategies.
• Familiarity with tax laws, regulatory requirements, and compliance frameworks specific to real estate finance.
